I’ve been posting big tracks for a while and I thought it would be good to compile them “for doz that slept”. If you like any of them, please buy them either on LP, CD, or digitally.

I’ve decided that I’m going to post my favorite songs every so often. I am going to try and spread it out across genres, so I’m expecting some hate… but its all good. Alls I’m trying to do is spread love.
The saga begins herre:
EARTH WIND AND FIRE – BRAZILIAN RHYME
What an intro…

Here is the second installment in my desire to hook avid blog readers up with big choones.
This comes from one of my favorite labels: mpm. Check out the link on the blogroll to your right. I got this record from a dj in Bayreuth, I gave him props and he reciprocated with this 12″.
Its supercrazysillyfresh because there are four different versions and they are all fucking dope.
The crew is called Breakout, and they are ill despite their German origins. Just joking, don’t want to get the Dutch started on German hating… they just don’t know when to stop. anyways, here’s a mugshot of the cats behind the beat.
Enjoy. Let me know what you think.

Amazing Brazilian Funk. These guys got back together after a 25 year hiatus, to record this dope album:
Be a good music lover and Buy it! The track I just put up isn’t on Uniao Black’s new album, but its sampled by a dope hiphop crew. Tell me the name of the track as well as the artist and you will receive a free copy of respect (shipping and tax not included).

the summer is finally coming to an end… although if you were in the UK you could argue that the summer never came so its really no big deal. regardless, this chooone is dedicated to sunshine and grilling with the homies. especially norsk; this joint reminds me of pingpong.
DON CARLOS & GOLD – DECLARATION OF RIGHTS

My first hiphop post in the spreadlove series.
FLYING LOTUS – TEA LEAF DANCERS
Flying Lotus is from LA and makes dope beats. You can hear his production on Adult Swim. He released his first EP “1983” last year and I didn’t think much of it. People were saying that he was the next big thing, you know the next madlib and dilla combined. That comment alone probably made me listen to it with overlycritical ears…
I got the chance to see him live and his set only confirmed my beliefs that people were hyping him up for no good reason. His set was shit. It seemed like it was his first time playing in front of a crowd because he kept fumbling over his midi controller. He basically played an RIP Dilla set (no qualms with that) but tried passing it off like he was altering the songs simply because he was extending the intros. Long story short, I was firm in my belief that lotus was wack.
Fast forward 7 months or so and I’m handed a promo of his new EP “Reset” which is on Warp Records. You don’t have to be very clever to guess that I was expecting more blandness. Sometimes it feels so good to be wrong. “Reset” is fucking dope. The best part about it is that this is an EP and his full-length is going to be released around March. I can’t wait for it to drop. And you know what, I can’t wait to see him when he comes through London. Hopefully he’ll kill it.

Its time to say big up to the only musical that I enjoy: “Wildstyle“. (side note… some people don’t even consider it to be a musical, but to you I say if a large part of the film contains songs which drive the plot forward, it IS a musical.) It has recently been re-released by Mr. Bongo in three different mediums which is mad dope. There is, obviously, the film which this time around comes with nice extra bits. Musically, they there is the soundtrack, which now comes with a second disc of instrumentals, and they also released a 12″ which is very dope. Finally, a book that documents the making of the film was penned by Charlie Ahearn, the film’s director, with great pictures and interesting anecdotes. Collect them all!
I know, the acting is awful, but nobody watches Wildstyle for the acting. This movie is all about seeing the legendary Cold Crush Brothers rocking next to Double Trouble on the basketball court. And who can forget Busy Bee’s Limo Rap? Also, more importantly, “Wildstyle” is a must-see for any hiphop fan simply because there are hundreds of sample references in it. The “M.C. Battle” track that I’m hooking you cats up with has at least 10.

BOOGIE DOWN PRODUCTIONS – CRIMINAL MINDED
I don’t really pride myself on my knowledge of hiphop because I’ve met far too many people that have put me on to shit that I should have known for ages. KRS One is an exception. He put me onto him. Or, better said, seeing him speak made me want to see him in concert, which in turn made me want to check out his recordings.
So one of my friends gave me some of his music, and I got to see that I really prefer him when Scott LaRock was still alive (RIP). Not only is this my one of my favorite BDP songs, its one of my favorite hiphop songs. Its an obvious choice, some might even say that its cliché, but I don’t give a fuck. Its dope, and some of you might not have it in your itunes. Needless to say if you are down with it, buy the album.

Everybody loves DOOOOOOOOOM. Yet, everybody loves him more as ZevLove X (Right?). Do you think it has anything to do with him getting fat? I mean, statistics show that thin people are generally more liked than fat people… no offence to the fatties out there. By the way, whatever happened to fat melvin?
Anyways, this is one of my favorite beats ever.

I think I might be repping MPM too hard, but I find it really difficult not to. This funky skunk is from israel; the interesting thing is, he had never heard a funk tune until 3 years ago when one of his traveling buddies sent him some James Brown cds. The rest, as they say, is history. The tune I’m hooking you up with is the first track off his new self-titled album.
Big up indecision (the funk nazi) for hooking me up with this; I just played at his funk night in oxford called the dugout and it was dope! It was especially dope because it was the latin special and I got to play loads of records that normally don’t get rotation. I didn’t know that white people liked Cumbia, and although the turnout wasn’t as big as it could have been, everybody was getting down.
I got away with playing “Planet Rock”, although indecision said, “they like this, but they really don’t”. Ha!

VINCE GUARALDI – WHAT CHILD IS THIS
This is the Christmas edition and I had to post some tracks from my favorite holiday album, Vince Guaraldi’s “A Charlie Brown Christmas”. For me, its the only Christmas album that doesn’t come across as being corny as hell. Its so jazzy and subtle and amazing and timeless, I am going to be playing this album this time of year for the rest of my life – no lie. I actually bought it last april when I was still living in LA, because they had just reissued it, and regardless of the weather and the time of year I was bumping it daily. I couldn’t decide which one track to post so I’m being generous and giving you two.
You should be generous and buy it for a loved one. Or for yourself.

I’m sure most of you already know about Burial. Those that don’t should download this track, go apeshit (in a downcast sort of way), and buy the LP. The album is fucking amazing, and you are missing out by not listening to it on the daily. Don’t believe me? I interviewed Flying Lotus a few weeks ago and he swears by this shizznit. You should too.
